MouseAdventure: To infinity... and beyond took place on Sunday, May 17 at Disney California Adventure. The theme of this year's west coast event was a celebration of 40 years of Pixar. The day started out in our “pop up” spot, just down the ramp from the Pixar Pals Parking Structure, with check in taking place right at 9:00 am. Team briefing began at 9:40 am to two groups of Basic teams and one group of Advanced teams.
In total, 54 teams and approximately 180 people joined us on the day. The day started out overcast and slightly cool, with clearing skies during the afternoon of the event.
As teams were released to head through security at the far end of Downtown Disney, teams chose from one of the various screening points to make their way through the area and into DCA. A lot of teams began on Buena Vista Street as they entered the park, while some headed to the Pixar Pier area to get the far side quests done first. Teams familiar with the San Fransokyo area were wise to complete that quest earlier in the day before the lunchtime hoards arrived.
A full recap of the quests with answers is provided below.
Basic and Advanced Quests
Elemental (20 Points)
Recent changes around the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail area were the source of information to solve this quest. Weather stations and nesting boxes have cleverly been erected around the area to disguise the infrastructure used for the Oogie Boogie Bash at Halloween.
Teams were given sketches resembling these structures and asked to fill in the missing words associated with the pictured items. When the numbered letters were placed in order, they spell out the final question.
- Final Question: What can we learn a lot from
- Final Answer: Nature
Ratatouille (30 Points)
Food plates feature in the film Ratatouille, but plates of a different sort are found around Cars Land. Images of license plates from around the land were provided, each with a missing character. Teams had to search for the plates to identify the missing character from each plate. Those characters were used to decode the final question.
- Final Question: Name of Fosters Bargain Garage
- Final Answer: Shocks-n-All
The temporary construction wall blocking the path between Cars Land and Avengers Campus was the location of the sign bearing the final answer.
Inside Out (30 Points)
For this quest, teams were given the outside letters of seven letter words scattered around the San Fransokyo area and tasked with filling in the inside letters. The highlighted letter within each answer spelled out the final phrase when read from the bottom to the top.
- Final Word: Name local island
- Final Answer: Pelican Island
A poster on the wall near the restroom entrance features artwork for Pelican Island.
Soul (40 Points)
For the second (and perhaps last?) time the faςade of the Monsters, Inc. ride was the source of information for a MouseAdventure quest. An outline of the doors on the faςade was provided on the quest sheet, with certain doors containing letters. Teams matched the thumbnails from those doors to decode the final phrase that they needed to complete.
- Final Phrase: Two brothers arrived in Hollywood with a dream that would
- Final Answer: change the world forever
The answer to this quest was in Hollywoodland over by the currently shuttered Hyperion Theater.
Onward (40 Points)
Like the film Onward, this quest required teams to follow a specific path down Buena Vista Street. The area is filled with Spanish tile that is emblematic of the era, and which featured as the key data in this quest. Images of tiles were provided, and teams had to place them in the order they first encountered them as the moved along the right side of Buena Vista Street from the park entrance, to the intersection at the Hyperion Theater, and back again. Two letters associated with each tile image were placed in a provided grid and then when read from bottom to top spelled out the final question.
- Final Question: Color of hat on woman in the tiled mural
- Final Answer: Orange [also accepted: yellow, yellow or orange with a purple band]
The referenced mural is on the corner of Buena Vista Street on the outside of Los Feliz Five & Dime.
A Bug's Life (50 Points)
It seems slightly ironic that bugs were evicted to make way for Spider-Man and Ant-Man. For this quest, teams had to identify images taken around Avengers Campus and locate them on the provided map. Teams then wove a web around the map, connecting each image in the order provided. As the web was drawn, teams collected the letters they passed over to spell out the final question.
- Final Question: Who created the nano gauntlet
- Final Answer: Tony Stark, Bruce Banner, and Rocket Raccoon
Up (60 Points)
The Pixar Pal-a-Round was an obvious choice to use for a Pixar-themed game. Have you ever noticed that each car pictures two pals from a single Pixar films? Hence the name!
Teams were provided with a diagram of the ferris wheel where some of the characters were provided; the other locations contained letters. In order to decode the final phrase, teams had to associate characters to the other locations around the wheel.
- Final Phrase: Go get rear text on attraction sign
- Final Answer: You've got a friend in me
Eye Spy (5 Points Each)
In concert with having to solve all the above quests, players also had to find eight Eye Spy locations throughout the park and answer the question provide their location.
- Big Top Toys
- The Oil Pan (in Cars Land)
- Off the Page
- Jumpin' Jellyfish wait time sign
- [This image was unavailable on game day] Refreshment Point (outside Humphrey's)
- Sarge's Surplus Hut
- Toy Story Midway Mania
- Pym's Test Lab
Hidden Quest (20 Points)
We don't always have a hidden quest, but when there is a space for it on the answer sheet, that means there is one! This time around it was hidden in the trivia section. The first letter of each trivia question spelled out the hidden quest query.
- Question: Great you found the hidden quest. What is playing at The Crest?
- Answer: Fantasia
The Crest is the theater pictured in the mural at the end of Buena Vista Street next to the Hyperion. Six teams solved the hidden quest!

In addition to the above quests, Advanced Division teams were given three more quests to solve in the same amount of time.
Advanced-Only Quests
Elio (40 Points)
Advanced teams were given very little direction on what to do with this quest, which required them to decipher a coded message based on a door in the Ancient Sanctum in Avengers Campus. Teams were provided with the three circles pictured on the door along with points along the circle where lines intersect.
First, teams had to draw the lines into the circles. Then, they had to interpret the code to trace a path that would provide a single letter of the alphabet and spell out the final phrase. Symbols on four corners of the door correlate to those on books in a nearby area of the Sanctum.
- Final Phrase: Upper right symbol book color
- Final Answer: Orange (or yellow)
Hoppers (50 Points)
Advanced teams received a second quest based in the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail area. Teams searched the area for items with the provided text to fill in the missing words. Then, teams located those words within a word search grid where certain letters were replaced by emojis. Finally, teams decoded the emoji string to spell out the final question.
- Final Question: Redwood tunnel tree is inspired by this original
- Final Answer: Dead Giant of Tuolumne Grove
Wall-E (Up to 64 Points)
This quest had teams going back and forth to MouseAdventure Central collecting information from around the park, much like Wall-E goes back and forth collecting litter on Earth. Each time a team provided a correct answer, they doubled the earned points for a maximum of 64. Below are the questions and their answers:

A Masters team is a team that has placed first in 3 events, and has been retired from competition. Although not eligible for any prizes during non-Invitational MouseAdventure games, Masters teams return to set the bar for other teams to compete against. They play mainly for bragging rights and the thrill of the puzzle hunt. Check out our Masters page to see all of our past winners.
