MouseAdventure: Animation took place on Sunday June 8 at Disneyland Park. The event celebrated the process of animation and its various steps. The day started out in our “pop up” spot, just down the ramp from the Pixar Pals Parking Structure, with check in taking place right at 9:00 am. Team briefing began at 9:40 am to two groups of Basic teams and one group of Advanced teams.
In total, 76 teams and approximately 250 people joined us on the day. The day started out overcast with pleasant temperature, with clearing skies during the afternoon of the event.
A little before 10 am, teams were released to head through security and into Disneyland. Some teams opted to head back to the tram route, others headed to the monorail, and the speed walkers zoomed through Downtown Disney to Disneyland's front gates.
A full recap of the quests with answers is provided below.
Basic and Advanced Quests
Digital Intermediate (20 Points)
The digital intermediate step in animation uses computers to adjust the color before the Final Cut of the film is complete. For this quest, teams were sent to New Orleans Square to find the missing words from phrases that referenced colors in signage and other items throughout the land. After finding all 11 items, and entering them into the provided spaces, the highlighted letters spelled out the final phrase when read from bottom to top.
- Final Phrase: Etched glass
- Final Answer: Cristal d'Orleans
Editorial (30 Points)
Adventureland at Disneyland is full of masks, crates, drums, and other groups of items that give it a mysterious air. Teams received a set of 10 pictures that had a group of items where one was edited to remove or add detail. The options for each item/detail referenced a row of letters. When that row of letters was entered into its numbered space on the grid, the final question was spelled out when read from top to bottom and left to right.
- Final Question: Boats are guided by skipper with what two traits?
- Final Answer: Witty and Experienced
Unfortunately, the Disney decorating elves added ear tassels to one of the masks along the wall near the Dole Whip stand. MouseAdventure crew attempted to make everyone aware of this change during the game.
Concept Art (30 Points)
For this quest, teams found themselves mounting the steps of the Adventureland Treehouse, and following along the story of the family in residence. The concept art referred to in the title could be found at the base of the tree, and the objects themselves could be found on each landing. Also at each landing was a sign explaining the rooms and their uses.
Players had to index into the sign closest to each object a certain number of letters to spell out a word. The instruction then told them to write down the title of an additional Treehouse item (which was a book) that corresponded with the word.
- Final Word: Annakin
- Final Answer: A Direct Guide to Treehouse Living
Stereo Conversion (40 Points)
Who doesn't enjoy hunting for tiny things in Toontown? Is what we totally thought when designing this quest... Teams had to search for signage where a missing word had been removed on the quest page. Each missing word contained a double letter that was transformed to another letter along a path connected to a set of colored 3d glasses. Once players had all the letter/color combos figured out, they could decode the first page of the quest.
- Final Word: Seat that squeaks in the El Capitoon Theater
- Final Answer: Row J, Seat 5
The curse of Gadget's Go Coaster struck MouseAdventure again - when we tested this game two weeks earlier, everything was fine. When we ran through all the quest locations on Saturday morning, a construction wall had been erected blocking access to one of the double letter signs. A last minute switch was made that saved the day.
Layout (40 Points)
If you had "MouseAdventure will never do another Main Street windows quest" on your bingo card, you would not be a winner. This time around, the quest featured zoomed-in pictures of icons associated with various Main Street businesses. After locating all of the windows and filling in the spaces with the business names, a number under certain letters lead to a decoded question.
- Final Question: What magic does the Main Street Magic Shop feature
- Final Answer: Vanishing
Ink and Paint (50 Points, or 3 points each partial credit)
Batuu is full of droids and blue milk... and very little English signage. While we're sure that most MouseAdventure players could totally work natively in Aurabesh, we decided to stick to the few consistent examples of English text we could find: signs that end in the word ONLY.
After locating the missing words from ONLY signs, one player from each team then got to color in a Star Wars themed animation cel. The coloring team member had to select the from among a set of Sharpie markers, choosing those with the correct answers labeled on their sides. A team of eager MouseAdventure volunteers had the coloring station manned throughout the event and helped teams navigate the ways of the force.
R & D (60 Points)
Ah, the delight of the ampersand. A teeny tiny character that can be found all across Frontierland. Some of them are three feet high, while others are less than an inch! Such perfect MouseAdventure material. Once each ampersand was found, teams had to count into the words before or after the ampersand to spell out the final question.
- Final Question: Contents of crate on Mark Twain dock
- Final Answer: Rifles and ammunition
Eye Spy (5 Points Each)
In concert with having to solve all the above quests, players also had to find nine Eye Spy locations throughout the park and answer the question provided with each image.
- 10,000 gold pieces (found on a Flynn Rider reward poster, in the Fantasy Faire area)
- Galactic (Galactic Grill sign in Tomorrowland)
- Flash (Birdhouses above Jungle Cruise stroller parking)
- Character (on Main Street)
- Merlin's Marvelous Miscellany (shop window in Fantasyland)
- $500 (on Frontierland shack near middle entrance to Galaxy's Edge)
- WED_1955_BG (on driver's license booth near Autopia; the D in the image was changed to a 70 the night before the event)
- Matterhorn Trail (sign near the Matterhorn)
- Activate (in Galaxy's Edge)

In addition to the above quests, Advanced Division teams were given three more quests to solve in the same amount of time.
Advanced-Only Quests
Props (35 Points)
Advanced teams were given very little direction on what to do with this quest, which featured a set of very Star Wars-looking window displays with lettered items within. If they searched in Galaxy's Edge, they would have been quite sad to discover that they actually needed to be in the lobby of Launch Bay in Tomorrowland. The colors of the logos above each window corresponded to the different colored letters for each item. Numbers indicated the letters within the sign to use to spell out the final question.
- Final Question: What will sit in front of the Astro Orbiter and serve as the new marquee flanked by spires?
- Final Answer: The New Clock of the World
Although we noted on the quest that teams should enter the location despite instructions from cast members, we received information after the game that some teams were told they weren't allowed in if they weren't DVC members.
Character Development (45 Points)
This game was our first chance to use the newly renovated Bayou Country (formerly Critter Country). We greatly appreciate the effort that went into the detailed signage around the land that centered on the musical characters found down in the bayou.
Clues directed teams to identify characters from around the land, using each character only once. Select letters from each name spelled out the final question when read from bottom to top.
- Final Question: What is on tap at the Lily Pad Lounge
- Final Answer: Fly Juice
Storyboarding (55 Points)
Normally, being stuck inside an air-conditioned space during a warm day is a blessing that teams enjoy. For this quest, Advanced teams had to watch all six of the movies playing at the Main Street Cinema with an intensity not normally required by a casual viewing.
Images taken from the films were provided on the quest page to simulate storyboard blocks. Teams place the image in order of their appearance within each short, and also in order of their movie posters at the theater entrance. Columns of letters from each image, when placed in the proper order, spelled out the final question.
- Final Location: What two ways are the fun-filled antics of the world's most famous mouse shown?
- Final Answer: Continuous and simultaneous
Results
We presented results and awards at our post-event gathering on Sunday evening, inside of the Disneyland picnic area. Awards were given to the top two Advanced teams and the top three Basic teams. We also handed out achievement buttons, which allow us to reward MouseAdventure teams that get the highest trivia score, find all of the eye spies, and other accomplishments. You have to be present to receive them though, so make sure to attend our future post-event gatherings!
Full results are available on the MouseAdventure website. The total possible points for the event were 365 for Basic and 500 for Advanced. There was no hidden quest.

A Masters team is a team that has placed first in 3 events, and has been retired from competition. Although not eligible for any prizes during non-Invitational MouseAdventure games, Masters teams return to set the bar for other teams to compete against. They play mainly for bragging rights and the thrill of the puzzle hunt. Check out our Masters page to see all of our past winners.
